Japanese Stab Binding
Goal
In 3 hours workshop participants learn how to create a beautiful notebook with a hard cover (example image above). Participants bind their own notebook, which they take home straight after workshop.
Optional: participants are encouraged to bring their own papers, photographs or other material (more info below)
It is also a great way to make a unique present for someone special.

What is Japanese Stab Binding
Japanese Stab Binding is simply binding single sheets of paper. Cutting and gluing is not required for this technique, which makes it suitable for both young
and beginning bookbinders. It allows to create beautiful and advanced patterns. Most types of papers and other kinds of materials can be used, which gives
space for creativity.

Tools and materials will be available during workshop. As well as tea/coffee and cookies. Maybe even a cake if I can find time to bake it.
You can bring your own photographs and/or papers, letters or prints to customize your notebook. You can as well bring printed photographs and create a book out of it. Please, mind that there will be no time for sequencing or editing - make your materials ordered and ready for binding. The size can vary though the hard cover and patterns will be cut to fit around A4 - anything larger will stick out. All materials needs to include 5 cm margin on the left side for binding - this part will be covered by binding and not visible.
There will be few paper patterns for the cover and few colour threads to choose from.
We will bind using one Japanese Stab Binding pattern, but you will receive few more binding patterns to use at home.
Each participant receives a Step by Step guide to take home, which will include all the information given during the workshop. So no need to make notes, just enjoy the time together!
